I am pleased to see the 3rd Annual Young Professionals Technical Symposium organised by the SPE Saudi Arabia Section YP Committee.  Your work towards an event of this calibre is an example to YP committees worldwide.  I would like to take this opportunity to provide a few ways young professionals can get involved in the next year.

Reach out to students – Having newly joined the industry, you have a natural connection to students who will be joining in the future.  Take advantage of this opportunity!  Invite students to your young professional events.  Give presentations at nearby universities.  Become an SPE eMentor.  Help make the transition from student to professional a little less scary.

Be Ambassadors for the industry – Play your part in improving the industry image.  Talk about the good things that your company is doing.  Explain how the industry really works.  Demonstrate that the world is a better place because of what you do.

Share YP Best Practices – Talk to YPs in other SPE Sections.  Ask what other YP Committees are doing.  Share your great ideas with others so they can learn from you.

Many of you are already active in these initiatives, but I hope I’ve given you a few additional areas to consider.
