Reservoir Surveillance & Management: an I-Field Perspective - SPE/EAGE Joint Workshop : SPE Conference
- 4 - 7 Mar 2007
Dubai, UAE
Venue
Le Royal Meridien, Dubai, UAE
In the next decade reservoir management teams will have to deliver a 20% net increase of the worldwide hydrocarbon production. Each year new production needed to compensate the natural decline of existing wells, and the additional production required to satisfy the yearly demand growth for hydrocarbon energy will represent approximately 9% of the worldwide total production. In order for this growth to be sustainable beyond the next 10 years, a strong focus will have to be placed on maximising hydrocarbon recovery factors, with level of resources and costs compatible with market conditions.
In this context, the subject of this workshop "Reservoir Surveillance and Management: an I-Field Perspective" is extremely important. Examples of actual reservoir surveillance strategies applied by oil and gas companies in the Middle East and elsewhere will be reviewed and challenges faced by operating companies discussed during the workshop. A comprehensive review and comparison of reservoir surveillance technologies will be made, including emerging technologies for flood front monitoring. The best methods and processes to turn surveillance into optimum actions, and to transform reservoir data into increased production and recovery will be debated.
Finally, the concepts of I-surveillance and I-field will be covered, as well as the relevant technology evolutions required in the coming years to address reservoir management challenges.

Women in Science, Engineering and Technology : SPE Conference
- Women all over the world, in particular in the Gulf States, choose medical and educational professions over science and engineering professions. There are many reasons for the career choices women make, but not enough research is done to articulate these reasons. This workshop will attempt to explore the reasons that drive women away from science and technology, and will focus on ways to educate people about these disciplines. It is recognized that public ignorance contributes to the fear that prevents parents from encouraging their daughters to choose engineering, for example, as a career and prevents these girls from choosing engineering in the first place. Sharing a few success stories can help alleviate these fears and illustrate that women are as capable as men to handle the work and social challenges associated with these professions.
Although the number of women is much less than the number of men in the fields of science, engineering and technology, based on the level of participation in conferences, seminars and workshops and on the number of published articles in these fields, women who dared to enter these fields have proven that they are of the same, if not higher caliber. That is not to say it is easy for women to thrive in what was always known as a man's world. It is still a big challenge to enter this world, stay in it and move up the ladder. Although many have accepted this challenge, they eventually hit a ceiling and couldn't move up any further. In many cases, they were surpassed by much younger and less capable men. So, another function of this workshop will be to illustrate the leadership capabilities of women when given the chance.
Who should attend?
The workshop is primarily aimed at engineers, human resources professionals, policy makers, industry recruiters, educators and government administrators. It is also for all advocates of women in engineering, science and technology.

1st Saudi Arabian Conference On Oil And Gas Exploration And Production Technologies : General News
- King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources cordially invite you to participate in the Saudi Scientific Meeting On Oil And Gas Exploration And Production Technologies (OGEP 2008 )with the theme “Towards Local Research & Development”. The conference will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia January 6- 8 , 2008, under the auspices of the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources His Excellency Ali Naimi.
Saudi Arabia is the custodian of the greatest proportion of oil and gas resources in the world with more than 25% of the global oil reserves and more than 5% of the global gas reserves. In addition, and to respond to the unprecedented global demand on energy, Saudi Arabia has initiated several upstream development programs to increase its maximum sustainable production capacity to 12.5 million barrels of crude oil per day by 2012. This, coupled with the startup of most of the upstream drilling activities by the international oil companies exploring for non-associated gas, presents challenges that can only be overcome with focused minds and advances in the leading edge technologies through sustained investments in research and development (R&D).
Succeeding means enhancing the partnership between local oil and gas companies, the local scientific communities, service companies, global technology developers, and academic institutions. This meeting will provide an optimal opportunity to bring all parties together to discuss the way forward.
The conference will include technical and poster sessions, covering the latest advances in oil and gas exploration, drilling, reservoir management and production technologies. There will be also several panel discussions and an exhibition. On behalf of the scientific committee, I would like to invite and encourage you to participate in this key conference. I also ask for your support in distributing this announcement to your colleagues. OGEP2008 will be a defining experience and a memorable time for all.
The Chairman of the Technical Scientific Committee
Sami Neaim, PhD.,

Integrated Geoscience -Technical, Business and People Solutions
Call for Abstracts
Invitation from the Chairman
GEO 2008 will present an outstanding selection of current research and technology from both new and traditional areas of petroleum geoscience. With a range of topical conference sessions, senior keynote speakers and an exceptional exhibition of exploration and development products and services, GEO 2008 will have something for every interest in the future development of the Middle East's hydrocarbon resources. Kuwait Oil Company is proud to chair GEO once again, and looks forward to working with national and international oil companies, professional societies, universities and other institutions to make this a memorable event. GEO continues to be the Middle East's pre-eminent event for presenting and learning about new developments and applications in geology and geophysics, and for the ability to interact with a wide spectrum of geoscientists and other industry experts. I am confident that GEO 2008 will be a valuable, rewarding experience for all who part! ! icipate. As you make plans for 2008, I urge you to encourage your colleagues to do the same.
From the Conference Secretariat
The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers (EAGE) invite you to participate in GEO 2008. The biannual GEO conference is the Middle East's leading geoscience event, and is certain to attract thousands of geoscientists and other professionals from across the region and beyond. The GEO 2008 Conference is lead by General Chairman Farouk Hussain Al-Zanki of Kuwait Oil Company, and convened under the patronage of H. H.
